2025 Indy 500 odds: Josef Newgarden, Will Power plummet after penalties

The countdown is on to the 109th Running of the Indianapolis 500. The big event takes place on FOX on May 25, and motorsports fans are diving into the betting action.
There were several crashes during qualifying weekend. And then on Monday, the league issued penalties for the No. 2 (Josef Newgarden) and No. 12 cars (Will Power) for technical infractions.
In the wake of an eventful few days, the odds saw a huge shift.
Last year's second-place finisher, Pato O'Ward, was at the top of the oddsboard at the beginning of February at 6/1. Alex Palou moved ahead of him for several weeks, but O'Ward is the favorite once again, moving to 5/1.
Palou is now second on the board, shifting to 11/2 from 5/1 after the qualifying rounds and from 10/1 over the last three months.
Rookie Robert Shwartzman secured the pole and his odds surged to 8/1 from 40/1.
The reigning Indy 500 champion is Josef Newgarden. His odds to win the Indy 500 dropped to 10/1 from 15/2 after Monday's penalty moved him to the back of the field.
Suffering a bigger blow than Newgarden on the board after the penalty was Will Power. He plummeted to 25/1 from 15/1.
Another big mover was Kyle Larson. He dropped to 18/1 from 10/1 after qualifying 21st for the race.
